God is watching
David, part two
David might have thought that no one was with
him out there in the sheep's pasture, as he cared for his father's sheep, but it was not
so. He might have thought no one heard his singing. He might have thought that no one even
cared. But Someone was watching. Someone was listening. Someone was caring.
One day the Lord spoke to Samuel, His messenger-prophet, and said, "Go to Jesse's house. I have chosen one of his sons to be king over my people. I have rejected Saul from being king because he has rejected Me and My Word."
How sad that King Saul was rejected. God says, "He that honors Me, I will honor, but he who despises or treats me lightly and does not care about Me, I will think lightly and not care about him." Saul could have had God's best if he had only chosen the ways of the Lord. But Saul chose his own sinful, stubborn ways. Saul chose wrong and lost out.
Samuel obeyed the Lord and went to
Jesse's house. Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel, but Samuel said,
"The Lord has not chosen any of these." Jesse said, "There is still the
youngest, but he is out tending the sheep." Samuel told them to send for him.
When David came in, the Lord said to
Samuel in his heart, "This is the one." And so David was chosen to be the next
king after Saul.
God had been watching David and He liked what He saw. He liked David's attitude and hard work. He liked David's dependability and his bravery. He liked the way David trusted Him and sang and thought about Him.
God is watching you, too.
Does He like what He sees. Can He count on you to work hard and do your jobs well? Can He
see a good attitude-no complaining or griping or groaning. Does God like the way you trust
in Him and think about Him? Like with David, God is watching you in secret to see if He
can use you publicly before others.
Read about God's choice of David to be king in 1 Samuel 16:1-13.
