Universes in Universes

In six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is . . . Exodus 20:11
And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. Genesis 1:31

God saw everything He had made. How much do you see of what God has made? There was a time when scientists looked up and considered that there were 1026 stars in the sky! That estimate soon changed. Scientists today using the most powerful of telescopes tell us that there are billions upon billions of worlds within worlds and universes beyond universes that we have not yet discovered. Truly the heavens are vast and unexplored. We cannot see or know the depths of the universe.

But there are other worlds in the opposite direction. The most powerful of microscopes tell us that there are worlds that live within us, on us, and around us of which we are equally unaware–universes, as it were, in the opposite direction.

The chief homeland of the invisible multitude is the soil. An acre of typical farm soil to a depth of six inches has a ton of fungi, several tons of bacteria, two hundred pounds of protozoa, one hundred pounds of algae, and one hundred pounds of yeasts. Soil is thus the highest concentration of life power on earth.

The invisible multitudes dominate the earth. From their viewpoint, we are the minority group, living on their planet. It is estimated that the total mass of microbial life on earth is about twenty times greater than the mass of animal and human life, and yet microbial life serves us well. Trees and flowers rise out of mixture that microbes mix in the soil.

The invisible multitudes are the waterwheel of life. By digesting raw elements, they lift them to a higher level of energy, so they can be used as vitamins and enzymes by higher forms of life. By eating dead plants and animals, they cause decay which releases locked up elements. Thus they keep the three great cycles of life flowing–the carbon cycle, the nitrogen cycle, and the cycle of minerals. They live with us, and on us, and in us. Our whole world of visible plants and animals depend on them and could not get along without them

God saw everything that He had made and behold it was very good.–everything in order, everything in harmony, everything pointing back to His many-sided wisdom and power. O LORD, our Lord, how excellent is Thy Name . . . When I consider Thy heavens and the work of Thy fingers . . . What is man that Thou art mindful of him? (Psalm 8)

God planned it all, made it all, put it in motion, keeps it all in place and at one and the same time was mindful of you and me to know we needed a Saviour and to come in the Person of His Son and die for our sin and rise again. O LORD our Lord, how excellent is Thy Name.

Next time you look up, next time you look down, remember there are universes in either direction, but above all remember there is a God behind them all who takes note of and cares for you!
