How to Be a
Success
(David, part 1)
David was the youngest of eight boys in his family. Being the youngest of so many sons, he was not thought of as very important. Usually a servant was sent to care for the sheep, but not with so many sons, Jesse sent David out to be a shepherd. The ruggedness of the outdoors, the heat, the cold, the rain, the loneliness of being by himself-these things didn't seem to bother David. He had a job to do.
There were exciting days as when he killed a lion and a bear when they tried to steal a lamb. There were the ordinary days of practicing with his sling. Whatever the day, David enjoyed God's wonderful outdoors. Often he would just sit with his harp and sing and meditate or think on the things of God. David would even write songs of praise to God. God had them recorded for us in His Book, the Bible. They are called the Psalms. Not all the Psalms were written by David, but many of them were. The Book of Psalms is one of the heart-books of God. It shows God's wonderful working in the hearts of those who dare to trust Him.
David became a great man of God, called a man after God's heart, because he took time to think about God and His Word. God told Joshua the secret to success in Joshua chapter one: This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success (Joshua 1:8).
Joshua became great, David became great, because they listened to God's Word and obeyed God's Word. Would you like to be great? Trust in the living God, the Lord Jesus Christ, as Saviour. Read from His Word daily. Talk to Him in prayer often. Worship with those who know Him as Saviour. And let Him have His way in your life every day.
