A little boy sat on my knee one day. We
were playing as a team. The game was Dominos. The game was nearly over. We were playing to
win. I saw an opportunity to make a play that would have sent our opponent to the
barnyard. ALet=s do
this,@ I said. ANo,@ said the little boy, AI wanna do what I wanna do!@
That is the same way we often treat God. We want
our own way. The Bible says, AAll we like sheep have gone
astray; we have turned every one to his own way . . . @ (Isaiah
53:6). We want to do our own thing. We will not bow and bend to the Sovereign Creator.
When we say that God is Sovereign we mean that He
is the Supreme Being of the universe. He has a will. He makes decisions and policies. He
sets up principles. He makes the rules. It is God=s right alone to rule over
the heavens and the earth. He is Lord. He is the Master. He has the right to be the Boss
of everything and everyone.
King Nebuchadnezzar of
Babylon had to learn that lesson. In Daniel 4:34 Nebuchadnezzar learned to bless the Most
high, and praise and honor Him Who lives forever, Whose dominion is an everlasting
dominion, and Whose kingdom is from generation to generation. AAll the inhabitants of the
earth,@ said King
Nebuchadnezzar, Aare
as nothing; He does according to His will . . . No one can stop His hand or say to Him,
>What are You doing?=@
God is a mighty King, but we like to be our own
kings. We want to do our own thing, be our own boss. The day will come though when God
will exercise His Lordship, take control of this earth, and put down the rebellion of men.
AI have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness,
and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow . . . @ (Isaiah
45:23).
We have the choice of bowing down now, and
recognize Him as Saviour and Lord or we can wait until that day when we will have to bow
down. Then it will be too late to have life and heaven with Him. What choice do you make?
ALook
unto Me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none
else@ (Isaiah
45:22).
