Rainmaking
In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries it was noted that it frequently rained after battles in which there had been heavy cannon fire. This was taken to mean that the loud bangs had sent shock waves into the clouds and caused rain formation. So, early attempts at rainmaking, aside from the rain dances of primitive societies, involved the firing of artillery or the launching of explosive grenades into the clouds.Rainfall is naturally caused by water droplets or ice particles combining in clouds until they are heavy enough to fall. In 1930 clouds were seeded with ice crystals in hopes that snowflakes would fall. A light snow followed. In 1946 American scientists found that seeding clouds with pellets of dry ice worked even better. In 1947 clouds were sprayed with silver iodide crystals for production of snowflakes. The nation Israel through seeding of clouds has claimed that it has greatly increased its annual rainfall.
Rainfall means blessing to the earthBwater to drink for plants and animals and man. Without the continuation of rain there would be no continuation of life. Rain is indeed a blessing. But there are other blessings we need also. These also come from above, from the living God. James said it this wayBEvery good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning (James 1:17).
Truly God has blessed us with abundance, with numberless blessings. But how can I get more of the blessings of God? How can I get God=s blessings to come down? How can I seed heaven so that God=s blessings fall on me?
In the last book of the Old Testament, Malachi 3:10, God told His people Israel to bring forth all of their tithes to His house and the result would be that He would Aopen . . . the windows of heaven and pour out . . . a blessing that there shall not be room enough to receive.@ If they did their part in bringing their offerings to God, God would do His part in blessing them.
In the days of Noah people failed to serve God the right way. God opened the windows of heaven in Genesis 7:11 and sent rain that produced a flood. God judged those who lifted their evil works to heaven.
God is willing to open the windows of heaven. He will send judgment or He will pour out blessing. The choice is ours to ignore Him or to honor Him with what He gives to us. If we honor HimBtreat Him rightlyBHe will honor us. A...seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you@ (Matthew 6:33).
