What Do You Know?

When I was a little boy instead of saying, AHow are you doing?@ sometimes people would say, AWhat do you know good?@ Some people even today say, AWhat=s new?@

We are told that man=s knowledge has doubled in the last ten years. Knowledge increases so fast that if a scientist were to spend all his working time reading what was written in his field, he would be three months behind at the end of a year!

Sir Isaac Newton after his great discoveries in science said, AI do not know what I may appear to the world, but to myself I seem only like a boy playing upon a seashore, and diverting myself by now and then finding a pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary while the great ocean of truth lies all undiscovered before me.@

Thomas A. Edison, the scientist, said, AWe do not know one-millionth part of 1 percent about anything. We do not know what water is. We do not know what light is. We do not know what electricity is. We do not know what gravity is. We don=t know anything about magnetism. We have a lot of hypotheses (guesses), but that is all.@

Albert Einstein said, APossibly we shall know a little more than we do now. But the real nature of thingsCthat, we shall never know, never.@

Indeed we know so very little. But consider thisCGod knows all things, completely, perfectly, instantly. God=s understanding is infinite, unlimited, and eternal. There was never a time when God did not know everything that would ever happen. God is never taken by surprise. God doesn=t need to learn.

We are told in Psalm 147 that God knows the number of the stars in the sky and what is more, AHe calls them all by their names.@ Great is our Lord, and of great power, His understanding is infinite.

God knows you, my dear friend. He knows you by name. He knows where you live. He knows what you are like. God knows you and God cares for you. God wants you to know Him. That is why He came down in the Person of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to make Himself known. God knows you. Do you know God? Is He your Saviour? Won=t you trust Him whose understanding is infinite?
