Who is the Great I AM?
At the burning bush in Exodus chapter three when God told Moses to be the rescuer of His people from slavery to Egypt, Moses asked, AWho shall I say has sent me?@ God told Moses to say, AI AM that I AM. Tell them that the I AM has sent you.@Who is God anyway? What is God like? God wrote us a book to tell us a little bit about Himself, but all the words in the world could never explain fully what God is like. God is too big to know completely, but He does give us a little glimpse of what He is like.
We learn that God is holy and righteous and just. That means God is absolutely perfect and pure in all that He is. God always thinks right. God always acts right. There is no sin in God. God cannot be unclean, impure, unholy, or contaminated. God cannot be wrong. He cannot think wrong. He cannot do wrong. He is the source and standard of rightness. God demands that everything be pure and clean and holy like He is. That is why no sin can come into God's heaven.
Where does this leave you and me? We sin. We think wrong thoughts. We do wrong things. Our lives are not pure and clean, and holy, and right are they? Isaiah one day looked up and saw the Lord (God gave him a special glance into heaven.). He saw the angels of God. He heard them say, AHoly, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty.@ When Isaiah saw how holy the Lord is, he then saw how sinful he was. He cried, AWoe is me, I am undone (ruined). I am unclean.@ But God took away Isaiah=s guilt and sin.
There is only one way for you to get clean and holy on the inside like God is. The Lord Jesus had to die for your sins and arise again to pay the price of your sin. "For the wages of sin is death" (Romans 3:23). God alone can make a life clean and right. We must come to Him as sinners, in faith, believing. David said, AWash me and I shall be whiter than snow.@ If you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
God is holy, and He can make your life holy if you ask Him to.
