Fellowship
Every creature has a need for companionship just as important as the need for food and drink. Testing tadpoles, zoologists have found that these little creatures are so influenced by other tadpoles that those kept alone grow back an injured body part only slowly, whereas the process speeds up greatly in the presence ofother tadpoles. Scientists have discovered that mice grown in contact with fellow mice grow faster than those grown alone.
A coyote can streak along over the prairie in top bursts of speed, at about 35 miles per hour. But a jack rabbit can hit close to 45 mph. Coyotes sometimes organize a relay race to defeat the challenge of such arithmetic. Coyote #1, when his strength begins to fail, drives the rabbit on an angle toward some cover. Out pops coyote #2 to take over the chase, angling off on a new diagonal. Moving cross lots at a leisure pace, resting up and getting his wind, coyote #1 is ready to cut in again. This continues until the rabbit is exhausted.
Some years ago at the Philadelphia zoo, the keepers had a problem with a big unapproachable rhinoceros, until they gave him the only available companion they could think of risking in the cageCa goat! Almost overnight the rhino=s disposition began to change. Before long he would take all the high-spirited butting the goat cared to give and come back for more. He had discovered fellowship.
Christians, those who are trusting in the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ on the cross, also need companionship. God has so made Christians that they complement and help one another. They are to work together as a team, each having a ministry in the plan of God.
Hebrews 10:25 warns us that we should be ANot forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.@
