Do you remember the story of Little Red Riding Hood? She said, Grandma, what big ears you have!
The better to hear you with, my dear, said the big bad wolf who was playing grandma.
When I was little, the kids on my block used to call me starchy because my ears stick out. I minded it a little then, but now I do not. I am thankful for the two good ears God gave me.
There is an animal of the desert with big ears. In fact he is almost all ears, you might say. He is the fennec, or desert fox, and his enormous ears allow him to hear the slightest noise. At the sound of anything threatening he digs furiously into the ground to hide.
God says in the Bible, He that has ears, let him hear. God not only wants us to hear the sound of His words with our ears. He wants us to hear with our minds and with our hearts and with our hands and with our feet! How do we do that? When we read or hear Gods Word we need to pay attention and understand it, as God helps us. Then we must believe it and obey it. In James 1:22 we are told to be doers of Gods Word and not hearers only. Gods Word should change our lives.
Do you have ears? Do you hear and then obey? That is real hearing.
Blessed are they
that hear the word of God, and keep it.
Luke 11:28
