Building

Here's a riddle for you: What is hard to get, but very easy to lose?

The answer–a good reputation or character. It takes faithfulness or dependability over time to build a good reputation. But a good reputation can be lost in a moment of carelessness. Build well. Build your life upon the Lord.

The Lord Jesus said, "Whoever hears these sayings of mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. Now everyone who hears these saying of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on  the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall." Read Matthew 7:24-27.

We are building every day,
In a good or evil way,
And the structure as it grows,
Will our inmost self disclose.
Till in every arch and line,
All our faults and failing shine.
It may grow a castle grand,
Or a wreck upon the sand.
Do you ask what building this,
That can show both pain and bliss,
That can be both dark and fair?
Lo! its name is character.
Build it well whate'er you do,
Build it straight and strong and true,
Build it clean and high and broad,
Build it for the eye of God!

The wise man built his house upon the rock. The wise person will build his life upon the Lord and upon His Word.
